Bra Sizing - A Guide on How to Get the Right Measurements

Do you feel uncomfortable when you wear your bra? Do you feel the wires poking into your breasts or the back band riding up? Are the shoulder straps painfully digging into your skin? Do your breasts look like they'd want to pop out of the cups?

If so, then you might be wearing a bra with the wrong fit.

And you're probably not the only one, because a lot of women today are wearing bras of the wrong size. If you feel pains in the neck, shoulder or back area, experience headaches or see red marks on your breasts when you remove your bra, then chances are you are wearing the wrong sized bra. By wearing an ill-fitting bra, you are compromising the comfort and support your breasts need.

So how do you find a bra that's true to your size? Here's a quick and basic step-by-step guide on how to measure your bra size. Before looking into the style you like, take your measurements first - this way you will end up buying a style that not only looks good, but also feels good on you.

Step 1: Measure your band size. You'll need a tape measure, a pen and paper for this. Make sure you're wearing a supportive - but not too tight - bra. To measure your band size, give your tape measure a snug swing around your ribcage, just right under your breasts. If the measurement is an even number, add 4 inches to the result. If it's an odd number, add 5 inches. That's your band size.

Step 2: Measure your cup size. Again, take your tape measure and swing around the fullest part of your breasts, at the nipple area. Make sure to round off the half inches or odd digits to the nearest even digit. Then subtract the result from your band size.

If the difference is: Z

0 inch, your cup size is AA

1 inch, your cup size is A

2 inches, your cup size is B

3 inches, your cup size is C

4 inches, your cup size is D

So, for example, the size around your ribcage is 29 add 5 inches to get the band size, which is 34. Then, if your cup size is 32, subtract it from your band size. With a difference of 2 inches, you are a cup B. So your bra size is 34B.

For cup sizes above D, there is usually a slight variation in the results. Manufacturers may label the larger cup sizes differently - like a size DD as E, the FF as G, and so on. So it's best to check your favorite lingerie brand for their cup sizing.

The guide above is just an approximation. Factors like breast shape, body size, fat distribution and height can also affect your bra size. Different manufacturers and varying styles may also give different bra sizing. So it's important to try on the bras before buying. Just remember that, more than how it looks, your bra should offer a great fit and ample breast support so you feel comfortable wearing them everyday under your clothes.

Finally Get a Bra That Fits

There are just too many women grabbing bra off the rack without even knowing how to calculate their bra size. How many of you go to a lingerie store offering a bra-fitting service then discover (after you have made a large purchase) that it just doesn't have that comfortable feel, or doesn't leave flattering results under your clothing.

The difficultly in purchasing the perfect bra is that many women don't really know what to look for. So many options exist today that making the right choice can be hard. My intention for writing this article is to provide useful information so you can make a purchase you can be happy with months later. 

First make sure you are wearing a bra with no extra padding. Now you are ready to measure... 

Your first measurement should be taken around the bra just below your bust. Make sure you breathe out while reading the tape so that the measurement will be the smallest possible. If your measurement is a half size make sure to round it to the nearest whole one.

If your size is even, add 4"

If your size is odd, add 5"

This is your BAND SIZE. 

Next, using the posture your mother taught you, make sure your arms are at your sides, measure at the fullest part of your bust being sure the tape is not too tight. Again, if you measure a half size be sure to round to the nearest whole one. Having a friend around might help here. 

This is your BUST SIZE.

Finally, you can calculate your correct bra size. Subtract your BAND size from your Bust size

to achieve your cup measurement. Most often, for every inch of difference the cup goes up one letter size. For instance: 0"-1/2" = AA, ½"-1" = A, 2" = B, 3" = C, 4" = D, 5" = DD or E, 7" = G and so on.

Your bra size is your Band Size + Letter Size together. Note that once you get above Letter D the sizing can become more varied between manufacturers, so make sure you check out the sizing charts if you are ordering online. If you are purchasing in a store make sure you try on the bra you want to take home.

Sexy Lace Lingerie a Village Asset in Koniakow, Poland

More than a few years ago, the hard-working and prodigious women of Koniakow, a hidden gem of a village in southwest Poland (the country's lacemaking headquarters), had a knotty problem: traditional lace sales were non-existent. Inspired by circumstances, they started crafting sexy lace thongs, g-strings, bras and beachwear that were sold to tourists around the entire southwestern region of Poland.

Shortly after this creative enterprise took off the ground, a group of lace makers was formed to sell the lingerie, and orders began pouring in from all over the world.

As revenue went up, however, so did the escalating tempers in the small village of 3,000. The National Folk Art Society started legal proceedings saying that the sexy lace lingerie was near-sacrilegious and a defamation of the village's 200-plus year lacemaking tradition.

Tradition aside - the sexy lace thongs drive sales in a village with little other industry to help pay the bills, and at the same time heat up romance in relationships around the world.

Made entirely of Egyptian or Turkish cotton, these lace gems are completely natural and the soft and silky feel of Koni-Art USA lingerie is second to none.

Not all people in Koniakow are happy with the sexy lace lingerie. Some of the older women have protested such a disgrace of of the historic lace tradition in Poland.

Fully funded by the Communist party from the 1950s, after the rise of a free market society - these lace crafters needed a fresh idea, as lace tablecloths and doilies were selling at a slower and slower rate.

And although a lace panty may sell for merely $35 - $80, these lace makers are making only $6 an hour, some times even less. And by American or Western European standards - that's minimum wage. In a small agricultural village in the mountains of Poland though - that $6 an hour helps pay more than the bills.

Proud of their soft, sexy and unique lingerie pieces - these scanty lingerie creations have helped save a village in tough economic times. From the fall of Communism to a rise in the potential spending power these panties have given Koniakow - days are much brighter for, not only, the lace crafters.
